That's intended, so that you're not surprised when starting Emacs again and your package is not initialized for you.

Wow, all the more reason to use the customization interface. Then el-get-sources could be automatically updated.

I'm not comfortable with custom, but I don't think it'll be easy to use it and come with anything other than just the package name. What about even just adding a lambda form in the :after property?

Keep in mind that the (current, at least) intended audience of el-get is Emacs users that manage their init file themselves and want an help in managing the libs they depend upon.

See also that there's no package description or comments, and no user-friendly interactive listing as provided by ELPA. That's very not el-get (current) chapter.

I think any improvement ideas in those area will need to be sent with patches :)
