We've actually used the default New Relic values in the case no attributes have been set...

I do like your suggestion, though unfortunately we don't have any development time planned in for this cookbook over the coming few weeks, but do go ahead and send us a PR, what do you think?

Awesome thanks dude! Don't worry, if it sounded like I was asking you to do it, that was my fault. I hate working on things that just languish in forks, so I just wanted to know whether you'd consider a PR :)
