Right, where can we get a final gnome 3.8 iso? With 3.8 support, I will finally upload the new version to extensions.gnome.org too.

I'm installing right now opensuse factory in a virtual machine, that should contain it. I will let you know

Seems like they changed once more keybindings setting. It doesn't work at all... See there for examples of new implementation, they come back to Main.wm (probably): https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell-extensions/tree/extensions/alternate-tab/extension.js
However, I discourage you to try 3.8 with opensuse, I find it very hard to start gnome-shell and it seems to log errors nowhere; seems like no distro is using 3.8 in their stable version.
So, my opinion is that you should release current changes for 3.6, then, when we have at least archlinux stable with 3.8 (I suspect it will be first) we will try with it.
At present, for archlinux it is in testing, for ubuntu 13.04 (beta) there is a PPA, opensuse has it in his Factory branch, while debian keeps it in experimental. Only extremely bleeding edge users are affected by missing of this extension: probably the first stable release for the great public will be Fedora 19, in May.

3.8 is actually in the main archlinux repos now, not that it should be a factor, but is a suitable testing ground.

thanks for the news :) i wonder if you can also try it!

Thank you, I've just finished the upgrade and unfortunately it is neither working with gnome-shell 3.8 nor with the updated cinnamon 1.7.4.
I hope I'll find some time to look into it on the weekend, but I can't guarantee...
from coverflowalttab.
Ok I fixed Cinnamon 1.7.4 for me by adding the keybinding "switch-applications".
But Gnome-Shell is just frustrating me. They changed everyting again. I've got the new keybinding api running (it's on experimental branch), but that is just the start. I fiddled around with the alt-tab modifier mask, the background, which was all broken. But still, the switcher is not working. Don't know when I will fix it...

Well, deploy new version without 3.8 compatibility. You, me or someone will get 3.8 compatibility sooner or later :)

Looks like Ubuntu 13.04 / Gnome 3.8 was released on the 24th of April and this extension is definitely broken. There are comments on extensions.gnome.org asking for fixes. Will all of you be able to find time to fix it?
from coverflowalttab.
Ubuntu 13.04 was released with Gnome 3.6. They are using Gnome 3.8 through a ppa... However, I think this won't be an easy job, but we will try do to this as soon as possible!
from coverflowalttab.
Oops, forgot I was subscribed to the ppa. Thanks for the quick response. Looking at the new code for the Manager, it looks like you are part way there. The introduction of platform specificity is a good idea. I will sit back and wait. Thanks.

I've fixed some javascript errors, and now alt-tab does his job of switching windows. However, the animation in not shown; .xsession-errors says:
JS LOG: The property dim_factor doesn't seem to be a normal object property of [0xb67b408 MetaBackgroundActor] or a registered special property

Here is my commit: you can integrate it, or I will open a pull request if I manage to fix everything :)

Thanks p91paul!
Just to let you know, the new version has finally been reviewed and accepted on extension.gnome.org.
from coverflowalttab.
I'm obtaining some improvements in my experimental branch: now animation is shown, but you can switch windows only with arrows, not with repeated tabs.
@Lusito are you aware of this issue?
from coverflowalttab.
Nope, been busy the past month.. I'll try to look into it at the weekend.
from coverflowalttab.
Seems like the rigth way should be a major code update like this: emerinohdz/power-alt-tab@1917faa#L0L449
As you can see from the linked commit, code has been simplified a lot.
However, we want to keep backward compatibility (we may decide to rewrite and drop it), so I've found a dirty fix: I've copied from 3.4 sources a function that is missing in gnome-shell 3.8, and now it works. Closing this for opening a pull request!
