OK, we understand. But we still need to somehow solve this problem. What would you advice us to do? Whom to ask for help, what to read?
Also, would it be theoretically possible to hire you as part-time advisor, @dmort27?

Hi.
We (I and issue author) are looking for a way to get offset mappings. Our problem is, words like "я" are changed to "йа" during preprocessing, and disabling it breaks things. I've looked at preprocessing code and found it quite complex.
Can we somehow modify preprocessing functions to obtain offsets from them?

In the architecture of Epitran, because the pre- and post-processors use string rewrite rules of arbitrary complexity, there can be no reliable and general way of getting offset mappings. In some cases, it would not even be clear what the offsets mappings meant.

@ClearSky10, I do occasionally consult. Contact me at [email protected] and we can talk about this further.
