To use Google, you need a working DNS configuration. You cannot use 127.0.0.1 if there is nothing responding to 127.0.0.1 yet.

@jedisct1 Thanks! In both cases there is nothing else listening on 127.0.0.1, and it's the same exact configuration file. Why does it work in one case and not the other ? Is it bec when launched as ./dnscrypt-proxy it finds the local .md cache file?

And in general, what is the recommended approach to resolve this bootstrap issue for a regular user

• Seems like beta11 didn't worked for me (on Windows) because of same trouble within live DNS. When I want move to new version I have to stop+uninstall the previous, then set DNS values on my adapter to regular DNS (non-encrypted ISP / OpenDNS (or smth.)) -> Update to new dnscrypt-proxy version -> Install the new service -> Reset regular DNS to DNSCrypt values (127.0.0.XXX) on Network adapter. Right?

• Is this topic Help wanted: web component to compute stamps will be the next solution for this problem?

• Until computing stamps will be started, may be a good idea is notification of server owners (by email from author, for example) to provide stamps? Because of new design of the next generation DNSCrypt-proxy 2? Just an idea...

Thanks @D1n0Bot .. On OSX editing /etc/hosts and adding the below resolved it. This should really be added to README or some IP addresses should be embedded in the code I guess?

37.59.238.213 download.dnscrypt.info
74.125.24.100 dns.google.com
74.125.24.101 dns.google.com

It can now connect to an IP address. Editing /etc/hosts should not be needed any more for DoH.

Thanks @jedisct1 .. When you say it can now connect to IP addresses, can you clarify what kind of configuration change is needed to connect to IP address for DoH. And perhaps this should land in the readme too. Thanks
