Dotnet runtime package store does not work for net8.0?

Some extra information:

I attempted this with net6.0 and got the following error:
C:\Program Files\dotnet\sdk\8.0.101\Sdks\Microsoft.NET.Sdk\targets\Microsoft.NET.CrossGen.targets(83,5): error NETSDK10

Might be related to the following issue still open?

Yeah... just discovered that, and it's a bit disappointing. Could you change my feature bug to a documentation bug in which the solution is to deprecate that document and add the last supported version? I doubt a "NullReferenceException" is enough information for most developers to come to this conclusion.

@EdLichtman, I'm not a member of the dotnet organization and cannot move this issue.

There is already dotnet/docs#28939 about the runtime package store but it isn't about the same problem. dotnet/docs#3346 (comment) shows the runtime package store was already being deprecated in 2017.
