I love the idea and have been looking for an easy cloud storage option for a while now. What bugs me is that there is yet no easy way of getting a remoteStorage account quickly and without much hassle. The 5apps account seems to be for testing purposes only and the owncube account requires me to put my address down (no thanks).
This app is all about the ease of use and I don't see that the average user "gets it".

Yeah, true, we’re working on getting more providers compatible.
But in any case, 5apps and OwnCube should be fine. I use 5apps myself, and the free OwnCube plan does not request any details other than mail address, at least as far as I know. (Fun fact: Since 2 weeks, every Dutch student can use their email address to use unhosted apps, and we work on spreading that.)
Basically, we try to get cool apps and users in parallel. Your app will tip lots of people off on remoteStorage, and you also benefit from the existing users. We’re not sure what’s the chicken and what’s the egg here, but what is certainly also very important for me personally is that it’s super-easy to use. It’s quite a challenge because of the distributed nature of the movement, but it’s a collaborative effort and I think your app is a super truckload of help. :)
On the more technical side, @michielbdejong can help you. He currently works on the next version of the client-side library.

hi! FWIW, we now consider version 0.7.0 of remoteStorage.js to be in 'developer preview', which basically means that people should stop developing for 0.6., and start developing for 0.7.. See https://github.com/unhosted/remoteStorage.js/tree/v0.7 for more info on how that works, and we would love to have your feedback on the examples of how the remoteStorage.* modules work! (see the 'example' directory) Having said that, the easy sign-up you are looking for will probably not be ready until end of July 2012, probably. The fact that we want no centralized service is obviously making it more difficult to make sign-up easy, but we have some ideas that we will be implementing this summer (including probably making Google Drive the default remote storage for Google accounts)
