Ok I figured out a way. It works if I first remove all widgets from the gridmap

            _.each(widgets, function(widget, i) {
                     var $widget = angular.element(widget);
                     var grid = $widget.coords().grid;
                     gridsterEngine.remove_from_gridmap(grid);
            });

And then add them back with their new sizes

gridsterEngine.add_widget($widget, update.size_x, update.size_y);

However, is there a more performant way to do this? It feels heavy on the interface for a resize

from gridster.js.

The performance issue was due to something else (using too many columns and rows with a too small of a base dimension for the widgets)

from gridster.js.
