Ah yes, I've neglected to consider the level shifters on the arduino board. Just about to chuck a patch out that will sort this out.

Note: I see a delta for this, but not sure if the Edison definition:
b->pins[1].uart.mux_total = 1;
Is correct as there is no pin mux data defined for it
from mraa.
