Pinging @elastic/kibana-visualizations (Team:Visualizations)

Can you post some steps to reproduce it?
I've tried to reproduce it but the default palette colors are assigned and within the breakdown by dimension I can still edit the applied palette.

  • create visualization
  • add some field to the vertical axis
  • add some other field to the vertical axis
  • add breakdown

For the breakdown you can select the palette, however that's applied to both graphs, so all colors are used twice.
For the individual fields (aka series/vertical axis), you cannot select a color / color palette.

I wanted to select a breakdown palette for both fields separately

I see what you mean now.
The logic there is too keep consistency for each category, even for multiple metrics.
I will discuss with the team whether there's room to allow a different assignment logic there.

For the time being, it is possible a workaround here: define one metric per layer, with the breakdown, then Lens will apply distinct colours.

Thanks, different layers indeed solves/works around the problem. I can select a different color palette like that.
