Custom controls do not work in the Visual Builder at the moment. :( The good news is that support for custom controls will come (together with a improved version of the multi checkbox control). The bad news is we don't know when...

@lots0logs what do you recommend for our fields that have custom renderers? Perhaps there's at least a migration recommendation for us on these fields, like category checkboxes (what's broken for us)?

This is still planned for this year. I'm not sure exactly when it'll be ready but it will likely be sometime in the next ~3 months. If you rather just migrate to one of the current built-in fields you can do that. You would have to handle transforming the value as needed on the PHP side though.
