Hi @TimPigden,
unfortunately this is an intended dependency, since Confluent 5.3.1 references Apache Kafka 2.3.0 instead of 2.3.1.

ok, thanks. I see. Unfortunately I'm using another library that uses 2.3.1 and consequently I get a no such method error on starting embedded. I think it's the reference to embedded-streams 2.3.0 that causes the problem though that's just a guess.
However, 5.4.0-snapshot, used in conjunction with 2.3.1 "just works" (or at least it does for my limited usage).
What's likely to cause confluent to update to 2.3.1 (or conversely any chance of you publishing the snapshot on maven as is?)

Release date for Kafka 2.4.0 should be this Saturday, so I assume Confluent will release its own updated version soon after.
Have you tried importing this library excluding the Kafka transitive dependencies?
