Thanks for the suggestion. This is rule is meant to be very simple and it does what it's intended to do. There are complexities with providing an option like you're suggesting that would be generic enough for everyone. I'd suggest, if you want this functionality for your own codebase, that you copy the existing rule and modify it to do what you'd like.

It's a false dilemma. I don't foresee the point of making it more complex than what I'm suggesting now, and even leaving out the dot case (as in myutils.safePattern
) would be fine too if that's difficult to support. I don't see why what it's intended to do is that much simple : for anyone who needs to interpolate strings in regexps, it's nearly useless the way it is now, due to all the false positives.
