Is there a way to turn off the left right swipe feature? Frankly it's very annoying having unintended scrolls in the wrong direction due to thumb movement having a natural curve when trying to scroll up/down. Now I have to carefully and precisely make a perfect vertical movement to scroll and it's so unnatural.

In which view? Maybe in month view which gained left/right swipe recently in #1479 ?

@hhartzer Sure will do, at first blush it seems fine, the 150 value was just what was comfortable for me, so changing it isn't a big deal.

I'll have to give the 300 value a try and see what it's like, you wouldn't want to make it too difficult to activate the swipe.

Oh yes Month view! I think that explains it. Thank you.

My thumb was doing a curve from bottom middle to top right. So I was scrolling down with the upward movement wich was at it's end more a movement to right (just like a thumb of a hand holding the phone would do that) which let me scroll up again.

So mystery solved. Thank you so much.
But I hate this new feature of course. 😂

I still struggle with the new behavior all the time, too

Oh god, I'm glad I'm not the only one, I thought I was going insane...
I too have the problem that almost every single time I intend to scroll down (I exclusively use the month view), the view scrolls up. At first I thought my phone / OS was broken...

I did some testing regarding the swipe direction: Let's say that 0 degrees is moving your finger exactly vertically from down to up (or vice versa), 90 degrees is moving it exactly horizontally from left to right (or vice versa). I found out that even a tilt of 5 degrees (so scrolling almost exactly upwards / downwards, but just a tiny bit to the left / right) causes the horizontal swipe functionality to kick in, which may result in reversing the intended scroll direction entirely (or scroll down two months at once etc.).

My thumb was doing a curve from bottom middle to top right.

Now I have to carefully and precisely make a perfect vertical movement to scroll and it's so unnatural.

I feel the same way. The way I've successfully scrolled through apps for more than a decade now is broken in my calendar app which I use multiple times a day, and as you can imagine it's extremely irritating... 😅

My suggestions would be:

  • I am really not a fan of interfering with such a basic navigation gesture as scrolling unless it's really really thought out 😅 so I kindly ask that either this functionality is completely re-worked; the margins of error must be much wider to make sure that a left / right swipe is always safely distinguished from an up / down scrolling movement or
  • to kindly add an option to disable the left / right swiping feature and / or the up / down scorlling behavior for those that only want one of the two.

Best wishes! 😊

Great bug report! Nice to see a possible fix, too.

I personally don't understand left/right scrolling in this context and think it would be nice to be able to disable it. But making it less sensitive should help with this issue. It's really weird when it happens, really just from the wrong twitch of the finger.

@toolstack I wanted to ping you to see your thoughts since you did the original PR for left/right support. Maybe you could help review #1603 if you have the time?

What makes you think that something has changed in the current version? The change only comes with version 1.0.43. So nothing has changed yet!

vocux avatar vocux commented on June 3, 2024

Okay, forget I said anything! 😂🙈 I thought it was included into 1.0.42. I am sorry.
