Ah, yes, this is a known issue. I'm working on a fix for the next django-reversion release, which should be out very soon (next couple of days).
FYI, the syncdb hook is being removed in the next release, and replaced with an admin command, due to incompatibilities with other 3rd party applications.

Okay, I just tried the trunk version as well, and it behaves the same way.

I wasn't quite finished with that fix!
If you pull from MASTER now, and run the createinitialrevisions management command, it should work.
