@cndn I think we should mention the (transitive) system requirements in seamless_communication README.

@AlekseiLitvin thanks for the quick reply. As of today, fairseq2 supports only Linux and macOS. Our pip packages are available for Linux and soon we plan to publish macOS builds as well.

@astrowar we haven't documented it yet since we are working on setting up the SSL/TLS certificates, but, on your Linux machine, could you give the following command a try?

pip install --trusted-host fair-package-repo.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com --extra-index-url http://fair-package-repo.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/fairseq2/whl/stable/pt2.0.1/cu118 fairseq2

Note that this is a temporary command till we get our domain and certificate set up (which we aim to have later this week).

(venv) astro@ubuntu:~/dev/voz$ pip install --trusted-host fair-package-repo.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com --extra-index-url http://fair-package-repo.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/fairseq2/whl/stable/pt2.0.1/cu118 fairseq2

We plan to have macOS wheels available pretty soon.

@cbalioglu when mac sir? in a matter or hours? days? or by the end of the week? just excited to try this out.

Also any plans on expanding to windows any time soon? Very interested in being able to run this locally on my machine, both on mac and windows.

@astrowar could you also share your pip version? To be on the safe side, you can also do a pip install --upgrade pip. Also would be nice to get detailed log output (i.e. pip install --verbose).

@astrowar we haven't documented it yet since we are working on setting up the SSL/TLS certificates, but, on your Linux machine, could you give the following command a try?

pip install --trusted-host fair-package-repo.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com --extra-index-url http://fair-package-repo.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/fairseq2/whl/stable/pt2.0.1/cu118 fairseq2

Note that this is a temporary command till we get our domain and certificate set up (which we aim to have later this week).

@franko14 right now we don't have pre-built packages available for macOS. For the time-being I suggest using a Linux box. We plan to have macOS wheels available pretty soon.

cbalioglu avatar cbalioglu commented on August 15, 2024

@franko14 @astrowar realized that there was a typo in the URL I sent. It should have been

pip install --verbose --trusted-host fair-package-repo.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com --index-url http://fair-package-repo.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/fairseq2/whl/pt2.0.1/cu118 fairseq2

Essentially instead of --extra-index-url --index-url and no stable segment in the path. So the whole command flow should look like:

pip install --upgrade pip
pip install torch==2.0.1 --index-url https://download.pytorch.org/whl/cu118
pip install --verbose --trusted-host fair-package-repo.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com --index-url http://fair-package-repo.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/fairseq2/whl/pt2.0.1/cu118 fairseq2
