Hi sorry for the slow response, I just got back from a trip. The image is broken for me as well, I'll work on a fix.

For whatever reason the image now only works if you explicitly execute supervisord. Try the following command:

docker run --rm -p 8083:8083 -ti --name arch-i3-novnc -e DISPLAY=:0.0 arch-i3-novnc:latest supervisord

Thanks @fennerm. The service starts if I use fennerm/arch-i3-novnc:latest as in the command below:

docker run --rm -p 8083:8083 -ti --name arch-i3-novnc -e DISPLAY=:0.0 fennerm/arch-i3-novnc:latest supervisord

FYI I do see i3 in the browser but get the status bar error in the image below. Also, after setting the mod keys, pressing keys doesn't seem to have an effect. Should I expect (some) things to "work" or should I see this more as a proof of concept?

Your host OS is probably swallowing your modifier keys. I think you can change this behavior in the VNC client. Running i3 over VNC definitely has its limitations, I would only recommend it for unit testing/ quick exploration of i3.
