I made Logos working with your script after all. The only problem is I'm not certain what I've done. So it seems there is no bug in the installation script after all. Many thanks for your work!

As it might be helpful for someone, I try to reconstruct my way: I've installed the latest stable Wine and some winetricks and some more library (don't remember which one). Logos was working after the start this time but started to crash after I downloaded all my resources. After I removed the index and reindexed, Logos seems to work ok.

Please try again using the fast_install_AppImageWine_and_Logos.sh instead.

Hi. I've tried it. Faster install, same result (visually, haven't check whether the backtrace is identical). What info do you need from me to identify the bug?

I'm having issues with this version myself. The tests for it were done by John Goodman (jg00dman). And at the moment I am not able to do tests due to several changes being implemented at various levels (glibc-2.33 is particularly problematic for me, as it makes the whole process of building the AppImage unfeasible). So it will be a while before I can fix these issues (probably after redoing everything from scratch, the issue will be solved, but it will take some time). So be patient until then.

Ok, many thanks. Does the installation with "native Wine64" work? If so, should I install wine myself, or is it installed as a part of the process? (I would prefer sandboxing but I'm bored by starting a virtual machine every time I want to study my Bible.)

Any way, many thanks for you work.

Anyway, for this 64-bit AppImage, you should have the native WINE installed to work, as it doesn't include dependencies. Unfortunately there is no way for me to test with this version now. But other people are reporting that they have successfully used it.

Thank you to the contributors to this project. I am brand new to Linux (Ubuntu 20.04 LTS focal).
I have tried to use your script, fast*.sh, to install Logos 9 with no luck. Logos crashes during the download of the library, and then on any attempted restart of Logos.

If someone could provide some guidance, I would appreciate the assistance.

Thank you.

--EDIT--

This was my installation process on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS focal:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine
sudo apt-get install winetricks

Downloaded fast_install_AppImageWine_and_Logos.sh from github https://github.com/ferion11/LogosLinuxInstaller

chmod +x fast_install_AppImageWine_and_Logos.sh
./fast_install_AppImageWine_and_Logos.sh

Logos will not start using the shortcut in app launcher, however, it starts and runs smoothly by executing the ./Logos.sh

Hi! Installed Logos on Saturday on Ubuntu 20.10 o.k. If I may, I advise you some tricks: 1. install first wine and winetrics from the Ubuntu repositories -- the installation script installs its own much newer version but this way the system has all necessary dependencies 2. install Logos in the wine bottle as suggested by the installation script and let Logos download all your library 3. use the script to remove the index and start Logos -- Logos should (possibly in several tries) index the library 4. enjoy your Bible study Note: Do not use indexing via the script; either it is broken or it does something strange for a purpose -- Logos starts after such indexing but neither Bible nor any other search works (only some limited fuzzy search). Best wishes, Michal so 15. 5. 2021 v 22:42 odesílatel doro-1 @.**> napsal:

Michal,

Thanks for these suggestions. I finally have a working install of Logos 9 on Ubuntu 20.04. The shortcut in the app launcher does not work, so I have to launch using terminal, but everything else seems to function. I will post my exact steps in case it helps someone else.

Hi.

First of all, many thanks for your effort to port Logos to Ubuntu. Now to the problem:

I successfully installed Logos with install_AppImageWine_and_Logos.sh (v2.24), also created the desktop, and indexed it from the command line. However, Logos crashes right after the Logos window is created and populated with icons. The error is "Unhandled exception: page fault on execute access to 0x00000000 in 64-bit code (0x0000000000000000).", see the backtrace please.

Can you help me? Many thanks, Michal

backtrace.txt

P.S. I tried the fast install, too, but it crashes as well. In both cases, I used default options, including AppImage.

This thread appears to be addressing more than one problem. I suggest for the OP to try checking you have all dependencies installed. I think you might be missing libjpeg62.
