Hrm. The nftbales wiki indicates this is valid use in the forward chain 1. Have you tried it using FireallBackend=iptables ?

Interactions with conntrack
Keep in mind the interactions with conntrack, flows with mangled traffic must be untracked.
Hrm. Perhaps that's what's wrong. The traffic is connection tracked so the mangle (tcp mss) is not having any effect. I'll check with a colleague.

Hi Eric, I haven't tried it with the iptables backend, but i can do that later this week and see what the results are.
