I'm a few months late to the party, but just in case this can help anyone googling this issue
Email button becoming non functional became a problem after upgrading to version 4.4.1 from 4.0.1 (memory serves, I don't remember the exact version num)
I fixed this issue by adding openShareDialogOnClick={true} to <EmailShareButton/>
Clicking opens a new tab with email inteface just as it was doing before the upgrade
