I think this is problem in gaze package, which we use to actually watch files.

We've worked around this with a setTimeout until the core issue can be fixed.

gulp.watch('./sass/**', function(){
    setTimeout(function () {
        gulp.start('sass');
        gulp.start('socialStyles');
    }, 100);
});

In our case, 100ms seems to be enough for ExpanDrive to completely write the file.

For anyone visiting here is how I ended up handling .less files to work around write delays with ExpanDrive (sshfs, macfuse etc...) Tip of the hat to @SpenserJ, thanks!
