No I haven't implemented the 'max_crops' configuration like croppa, instead there is a 'serve_custom_filters_only' property wich disable direct manipulation of the image in the url and only permit custom filters (which are pre-defined). So if your site serves image in 3 different sizes, you can define a custom filter for each and enable 'serve_custom_filters_only' so you will be assured that there will not be more than 3 manipulated files by image.

To define a custom filter you do (in you app/filters.php file or create an app/images.php file and include it in the app/start/global.php):

Image::filter('filter1',array(
    'width' => 100,
    'height' => 100,
    'crop' => true
));

And the you can generate an image url like this:
