Sorry but I don't think there is not enough space on a single icon, and there are no plans to implement a second (or more) icons to display other informations.

We could try to display both counts in the icon tooltip though, if #28 gets solved.

A tooltip could be an option but will mostly be of little interest for my personal use case.

What I had in mind was something that could work without requiring #28 to be fixed. The base icon could have three possible states:

• no new nor unread mail
• no new mail but some unread ones
• both new and unread mail
  On top of this base icon, firetray would overlay the unread mail count.

I think I see: the background color/icon would change when a new state happens. In other words: when a new count is displayed, the background color would adapt according to the states you listed. Correct ?

Exactly. Background color adaptation instead of background icon adaptation would of course not change the usefulness of the feature at all.
