You're right on both points! The file locking was never used, which is clearly not intentional. I must have forgotten to commit that or something. Oops. :-(

The expandCommandLine() function is indeed quite fragile. I wasn't aware of shlex, I'll look into that. It looks like one needs to configure it so that it handles stuff like /Fo"Abc" and /FoAbc and "/FoAbc" the same way?

Ah, now that I looked closer - the expandCommandLine() function only splits on spaces when using response files. That's why I never noticed this issue (I don't use response files myself)...

Commit 1207786 attempts to lock the object cache directory in all relevant cases. b3d301e improves parsing response files using the shlex library.
