I've started taking a look at this and I think you're quite right. Trying to figure out a good, elegant way to address both the dependencies management and the validation. Your points make perfect sense. Working on it.

I think in general, if the user did not specify optional field value explicitly, it should not stop validation as well as it should not be included in the output JSON. May be a synthetic checkbox could be generated, possibly based o some option/config, to let the user explicitly express that they are intending to specify optional value and therefore be subject to validation.
