Just updating this issue, I found @szemtiv fork that seems to have basic support for python 3.4 on https://github.com/szemtiv/m3u8/commit/1a514ba4cb307350a95f854b4fcc71021ffc6832.

all built in tests ran successfully for me with python3, but I had to work on something else, so I did not have the time for any serious integration. I hope I'll be able to come back to this in a few weeks.

We were inspired by your code @szemtiv and we added support for python3 but keeping the retro-compatibility.
