options: [ ro ]

or even

  - ro

or maybe it could accept it either way

Or should to warn the user or even stop the build.

I think it should be pretty easy to split on commas and form a list out of the string — it's a comma-separated list in the end, after all! It should fail if it doesn't look like a comma-separated list, I'd say.
