Using golang-weekly Ubuntu packages, the plugin doesn't seem to like it when I point to the lib packages

I assume you want to use a system wide go installation ( the PPA way ). At
the moment you can only use the locally installed go sdk (that's what was
designed for). It shouldn't be too much trouble to see how to use it when
using PPA go packages but there is probably some work required to make it
work. But i can promise you that in the next release some support for PPA
installed Go packages will be added.

The packages are installed in /usr/lib/go, but your plugin shows an error
with no message when I choose it. Any help would be great!

Can you please take a look at the latest release (pushed on the plugins.intellij.net as the version 0.3.15) ?. It should fix your issue :).

So it adds the SDK fine now, but I don't see a way to add a Go/Google facet to my Module?

You don't need to add a Go facet anymore. You just have to tell it to use
the go sdk added from before.
