Ideally, it should return ValidationError: Keys cannot end with a trailing slash

err.messages contains all validation related messages.

This in the very least should be documented, having to look on the error outside of message or stack is unexpected.

It mimics how validation errors are handled in Github. Feel free to open a PR with documentation modifications, because you're right, it was overlooked in the docs.
