Hey, the usage of dot_sigma in the ReLU kernel is just coincidental - after massaging the expression in the paper you linked (was first derived here https://papers.nips.cc/paper_files/paper/2009/file/5751ec3e9a4feab575962e78e006250d-Paper.pdf) you can obtain the formula we use in the code, which was just a bit more efficient due to variable reuse / more numerically stable. If needed happy to elaborate on the derivation later!

I saw many wrong implementation of relu. The last page of this paper Exact Computations requires the nondiagonal elements to be less than one in absolute value. See their implementation code. It is just the formula but clamping values so they are in the range of arccos seems not right. I saw at least 3 papers which all have this problem.
