this definitely looks possible! would make a great plugin, or even maybe a hotkey.

Plugin route:

1. checkout the starters here
2. you can register a function that's called when your plugin is called, and you'll get the current selection. at which point, you can write a loop to crawl parent nodes and put the badge and selection overlays on them.
3. follow the z-index plugin!

Hotkey route:

1. currently shift+enter selects the parent element of the current selection, what key combo could we press that selected the parent element without ditching the previous selection?

p.s.
the biggest thing to note about this, is that users can have multiselected before hitting the hotkey or invoking the plugin, so be prepared to crawl for parents based on multiple root/anchor elements 👍🏻
