Thank you for submitting this issue. At the moment, we are not planning to add Java 11/17 support for App Engine on Cloud Tools for Eclipse.

You can find Java 11/17 migration documentation here. We recommend using our Maven/Gradle plugins.

This is a very interesting situation. Migrating to a Java 11 environment from Java 8 is fairly well documented. However, none of the issues referencing this issue is asking for help about migrating to Java 11, it's asking for this plugin to be updated to support Java 11.

It'll be interesting to see how the tone changes at the beginning of February once the support for Java 8 ends and thousands of developers who use this plugin one day wake up to realize they can't deploy to App Engine anymore. Better yet, imagine their shock when they realize that there are no plans to upgrade the plugin, essentially making the plugin pointless. I imagine a competing cloud service will start looking very appealing at that moment.

+1 to this issue.

Currently, there is no functionality to create an App Engine Standard project in Java 11 using the Google Cloud Eclipse plugin.

This makes it very difficult to create, migrate, run, or debug any GAE in Java 11, and once support ends for Java 8 next year, this plugin would essentially be useless for App Engine Standard.

Looks like they're working on prioritizing this for intellij, so I don't doubt that this would also get some priority.

Upvote on this as well. Having Cloud Tools support Java 11 would hopefully make the development transition from 8 much easier. As previous poster indicated, the plugin would now be useless from a App Engine perspective without this. Hopefully the team can prioritize well ahead of the Jan 2024 deadline. Thanks for all your work on this great project.

+1 on this

We are also trying to migrate a GAE java 8 to java 11 and use the "legacy bundled service" so we can at least get to 11 and then start coding out all the old dependencies. We have many unfortunately.
