Especially that the list will be too long if we add each part of each component as a separate component...ouch

I'm thinking of adding a "description" column for RciComponent. This description is to tell the user where to look for damages for that specific component.

  1. Use that column for non-commonarea RCI's.
e.g. Put "Beds" as the name of the component, "frames/mattress/mattress cover" as description.

  2. The reason for not using for common area RCI's: Common area RCI's have fewer components, and each component doesn't have separate rows for different parts of the component on current paper RCI's -> there is then no need to complicate that.

That sounds like a reasonable option. You are suggesting we do this to account for the cases where a paper RCI has a bunch of "categories" for things that all seem to be part of one item? So we add a Description column, instead of adding multiple components for the different pieces of one component?
But I think we would want the component name to be still singular - "Bed", not "Beds"

Yeah. So I'm picturing the Description will be displayed with the component. The user will see it so that they can try to look for those areas. And they can write in their own way to add damages, not restricted by the Description.

Currently, a lot of components on the paper RCIs provided by MC are in plural. I'm not sure if they did that on purpose or out of carelessness. I agree that we should want them be singular since it makes more sense.

Need to use a better format - xml to store the correct components

Enhancement (per Julia's suggestion):
Figure out some way to indicate which part of the common area a certain component belongs to (e.g. Kitchen, Living room). Her suggestion was headings
