Can you just use an entity reference field? My criticism of NodeQueue is that is supports nodes only which means it has limitations.

We'd like to lend our support to this request. EntityQueue does appear to be an upgraded version of NodeQueue. That said, NodeQueue's documentation is more extensive and it is not immediately clear if all the functionality from the SmartQueue module which comes bundled with NodeQueue has been rolled into EntityQueue. Our usecase would certainly benefit from SmartQueue functionality.
