Use a scope to get users with a setting?

I managed to implement a withSetting scope like so.

I updated the migration to use a json type column instead of the default text column.

Schema::table('users', function(Blueprint $table)
{
    $table->json('settings');
});

I then created a scope on my User model.

/**
 * Scope User's With Setting
 * 
 * @param  \Illuminate\Database\Query\Builder $query
 * @param  string $setting
 * @param  string $value
 * @return \Illuminate\Database\Query\Builder
 */
public function scopeWithSetting($query, $setting, $value = true)
{
    return $query->where('settings->' . str_replace('.', '->', $setting), $value);
}

I can then fetch Users with a specfic setting like so.

$users = User::withSetting('emails.weekly', 'on')->get();

Hope this helps anyone planning on doing this theirselves.
