On SpatialTrait, line 96:

if (in_array($attribute, $spatial_fields) && is_string($value) && strlen($value) >= 15)

I don't know why you set the length condition to 15, but changing it to 13 (which is the length of the string "\x00\x00\x00\x00\x01\x07\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00") solved the cast.

I truly don't remember why there's a check for >= 15. I'm going to do a quick search and test without the condition.
