@LucieAm I would suggest you check out this page: https://sccn.ucsd.edu/~mgrivich/ScreenSynchronization.html

They give some instructions about how to set up a light detecting diode on the screen that will output its signal to the EEG amplifier. I have done this method in the past was well for an intracranial EEG study.

If you go with the light diode method, then you would only need to draw a shape (circle, square, etc.) on the screen where you place the diode (probably vertically centered, but on the left side). This way, the white colored shape (a very strong response signal for the diode) will appear on screen as close in time as possible to the stimulus (which is centered). Alternatively, you could place the diode on a corner of the screen, but it would be further in space from the stimulus presentation, and in turn, the drawing of the diode signal would be delayed more compared to the drawing of the stimulus. Note that at 60Hz is will take about 16.67ms to draw the entire computer screen from the top left corner to the bottom right corner.

I would also suggest you check out our StimSync paper, which should be able to point you in the right direction for parts/open source code: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24286701
