https://jobs.hasgeek.com/new headline accepts only 100 characters. So the Issue is no longer exists.

If there is a domain in the headline (like hasgeek.com), Twitter tries to turn that into a link and wraps it with t.co. The final tweet length is based on this. Therefore the whole length may still exceed 140 despite the 100 character limit on headlines.

@kracekumar Don't close issues without knowing whether it's fixed or not. This issue was opened a whole year after the 100 character limit was set, so it's not clearly not fixed by the 100 character limit.

@jace The issue is still open so, Can I work on this?

jace avatar jace commented on September 3, 2024

Yes. See if Twitter has an API to check. The length of t.co URLs will change with time.

iamsudip avatar iamsudip commented on September 3, 2024

@jace According to this doc
GET req to this url: https://api.twitter.com/1.1/help/configuration.json will send us the required info for
max t.co link length now which changes time to time now it is 22 for http and 23 for https.

miteshashar avatar miteshashar commented on September 3, 2024

Thats the max, any way we can get the exact length?

from hasjob.

iamsudip avatar iamsudip commented on September 3, 2024

@miteshashar I couldn't find it yet but if we set the max character considering max t.co length for all urls it will not be a problem then. Yes, but in few cases there will be characters remaining but we will not be able to use it.

Yes, that is my concern. 140 characters are way too short to compromise on. Every available character starts carrying more value.
