Of course, that makes sense. I guess then it's not really possible to provide an error for that case, at best maybe a periodically appearing message that it's waiting for a password from stdin...

Interesting one. I just fixed a similar issue where the error wasn't correctly reported on crash. I can confirm this is happening in my environment with the latest hc/holochain.

@matthme It looks like this is stalling because of --piped. It's waiting for a password from stdin. This should progress if you echo 'passphrase' | at the front of this command. Alternatively you can drop the --piped and it will prompt for a passphrase.

Yes it would be good for it to do something other than hang. It's not easy to log because that would be global holochain behaviour and in the sandbox it's behind a static so it will only prompt once per sandbox cli run and you don't know which prompt needs a log with it.

I'll put this on my list of usability things to look at.
