Some good ideas there. Re: prompting, what about server mode? Perhaps the server UI could prompt?

The server mode is an interesting one. To support build box environments, we don't want anything set in server mode to make its way to disk.
I think I'll have a better idea of what server mode will need to do once I know the list of configs shutit will need to prompt for. E.g. if it's just docker_executable and host_password then we can prompt for them on server startup.
I'm also thinking we may want to actually have a ~/.shutit directory, which we'd put a shutit.cnf (or defaults.cnf, not sure what to call it yet) in. We could then use the directory for other interesting things, like caching lookups for what's installed in a container across shutit runs.
