IINA, like many other macOS apps, is using Sparkle to update itself. Neither IINA nor Sparkle run in the background when IINA is not opened. That is to say IINA never updates itself in the background. AFAIK each time IINA starts, Sparkle will compare the current time and the last time checked for updates, if the period is longer than the option, Sparkle will check for updates again.

So it doesn't run in the background. Thank you for that. Maybe more of a caption underneath the option saying along the lines "it only checks for updates when the app is open"? Or a hover message?
