Hey Gary,
I'm not sure that it makes sense to explain what a wrapper is in this tutorial. This tutorial steps through the concepts of features built into the web.

"Wrapper" elements are just an approach that some people to apply layout or other styles to a group of elements. In the past, I've used a "wrapper" element to achieve complex background image schemes.

For what it's worth, though, I think use of "wrapper" as a class or id value is considered an anti-pattern. You should use a more semantic name. Moreover, I think of "wrapper" elements as a last resort. They are kind of a hack. Ideally you should be able to structure your page in a way that does not need them.

Hey @gdance, there is no official definition of what a wrapper is. Generally people use that when they're not sure what to call something. Sometimes they use it to signal that some element is a hack and not part of the semantics of the page. Hopefully this clarifies what it is and why it isn't on learnlayout.
