No errors are thrown, everything works swimmingly when I run from a console, but when running from the scheduler (which I need to do because this has to be configured to run on startup) no tray icon. Any tips?

Doing some debugging on this. Comparing runs from a console v runs from the scheduler, I have found a key difference:
Shell_NotifyIcon returns 0 in the latter case, 1 in the former, when run in the _refresh_icon method of class SysTrayIcon in the traybar module. Looking up Shell_NotifyIcon in windll, I'm finding that this is the function that should update the tray.

Ha, got it. It's because (at least in my case) the task is being run with the selection, "Run whether User is Logged In or Not". Windows doesn't give authority to open a window or mess with the tray to a process that can run without login.

Workaround- write one process that starts before login, and a second that starts on login. This second one can be programmed to interact with the tray and with the first process to generate the desired behavior.
