In the meantime you always can manipulate the GD resource directly:

// create image
$img = Image::make('foo.jpg');

// apply gd library blur
imagefilter($img->resource, IMG_FILTER_GAUSSIAN_BLUR);

Thanks for the info. For some reason my server(s) don't want to play nice with imagefilter (they are silently failing for some reason), but I don't think this is related to your script at all so I will close this issue.

On this topic, I didn't realise that imagefilter required the bundled version of PHP

"This function is only available if PHP is compiled with the bundled version of the GD library."

So I'm looking into installing that PHP version now.
