Draft Transition Plan

A draft of the project transition plan is due by the end of the first year. More details to be added as we get them.

Clarify what is meant by "Support UGRID"

As mentioned at the meeting today, we should clarify what is meant by supporting UGRID.

Triangle, quad, hex, meshes? Full 3D unstructured topology?

For sure, support output from FVCOM , ADCIRC, SCHISM. Anything else? Please add pointers to samples here.

AGU 2019

Submit abstract for AGU 2019 to showcase the new UGRID capabilities of the TDS.

Update issue labels

We will need to update the issue labels (e.g. "good first issue" is not particularly useful for this project, should probably add "Deliverable" as a tag, etc.)

Deploy UGRID FMRC on Unidata System

Expose one or more UGRID datasets via FMRC on the Unidata test TDS (thredds-test.unidata.ucar.edu) for wider testing. Use this system for #10.

Make NOAA COOPS San Francisco Bay forecast data UGRID-compliant

The NOAA CO-OPS operational forecast model for San Francisco Bay is not currently UGRID compliant.

The THREDDS catalog is here:

And if you look for the data with fields in the name, these are output from the unstructured triangular grid FVCOM model.

They only keep a few weeks of data on the thredds server, so in a few weeks the dates in this URL will need to be modified to work:

@kwilcox, do you have some NcML for them to add to their THREDDS catalog to make this UGRID compliant?

Support UGRID in Coverage FeatureType

Expand Coverage FeatureType, or create a new UGRID FeatureType, to support the use of UGRID in TDS FMRCs. Scope of work to be based on results of #7.

UGRID and Coverage FeatureType Issues

Identify areas in which Coverage FeatureType falls short of supporting unstructured grids. Produce a summary document (blog post?)

Identify collection of representative files

Use this ticket to point to UGRID datasets to be used for development and testing.

Create visual products from FMRC UGRID datasets

Create basic maps, charts, etc. of various fields within UGRID datasets as exposed by the TDS via FMRC.

edit: these should, at the very lest, be driven by the functionality tested in issue #6

Create testing environment for THREDDS and Example datasets to live

With some CI pipelines so we can update THREDDS configs/dataset here in GitHub and they can be deployed to the server automatically.

UGRID Test cases

Create unit and integration tests based on the unstructured grids represented by the sample collection.

Things to test:

• correct geolocation
• correctness of spatial subsetting
• time series extraction from single lat/lon point
