Is SDL sound backend or OpenAL sound backend being used?

SDL is being used, there's something about SDL being initialised in the quake3 console.

Just tried with OpenAL, everything sounds a bit different, but the same issue is still there, a few item pickups and weapon hits didn't generate a sound. Also:
Some sounds are strange, like a short part of the sample is repeated in an endless loop, together with warnings about unhandled OpenAL errors for "invalid value" and "invalid operation".
IIRC it was the strange repeating of samples, which happens mostly/exclusively for special background sounds in particular places of particular maps, which led me to switch to SDL a while ago with the 1.36 download version.
