Clustergrammer2 version 0.5.2 changed the package.json in the following manner:
"@jupyter-widgets/base": "^1.1.10 || ^2",
see commit
This change was recommended here: jupyterlab/jupyterlab#7063 (comment)
This change was described in the widgets documentation here and quoted below:
Updates for Widget Maintainers
Custom widget maintainers will need to update their @jupyter-widgets/base dependency version to work in JupyterLab 1.0. For example, if you had a dependency on @jupyter-widgets/base version ^1.1, update to ^1.1 || ^2 for your widget to work in classic notebook, JupyterLab 0.35, and JupyterLab 1.0. See #2472 for background.
jupyter-widgets/ipywidgets#2472 can be found here.
In my testing on a local JLab 1.0 and MyBinder JLab 0.35.4. I'll summarize the experiments below:
from clustergrammer2.
Changing the version of jupyter-widgts/base
to ^2
allows Clustergrammer2 to work in JLab >1.0 and Jupyter Notebook. However, Clustergrammer2 is no longer running in JLab < 1.0 - we would like to address this but are alright with requiring JLab > 1.0.

- @cornhundred I‘ve figured this out. It seems my dataframe is having index of dtype "Int64" and can't be rendered by Clustergrammer2 properly. I changed to normal python object dtype and it works. But I believe this should not be the expected behavior so probably there's a bug behind it that you may want to fix
