Reading the gulp-jasmine readme (https://github.com/sindresorhus/gulp-jasmine#config) it mentions that it passes config to Jasmine's loadConfig method. Reading the example in the Jasmine docs (https://jasmine.github.io/2.8/node.html#section-Load_configuration_from_a_file_or_from_an_object) it features a helpers property.
In our Node.js example (https://github.com/JamieMason/Jasmine-Matchers#nodejs) there is also a helpers property which is passed to Jasmine, try putting the path to your node_modules/jasmine-expect/index.js in there and it should work.
