From what you describe, I believe a setup like that would work although I've never tried it personally. It sounds like you're setting up multi-master replication between the two databases, so the replication process would be entirely below the level of mama-cas (and Django itself, for that matter). I can't think of any limitations in the current mama-cas implementation that would cause problems. As far as it's concerned, it would use the locally configured database with no knowledge of the other instance.
For single sign-on sessions to exist in both databases, you'll need to replicate the Django users/sessions as that's what mama-cas uses to determine if a single sign-on session exists. I'm not sure if replicating sessions would create issues, as it likely depends on how the replication is configured and how you're using the two instances. Replication latency seems like the most likely cause of any issues that would arise.
If you do end up going this route, I'd be interested to hear how it works for you.
