numpad (last update 2015) is broken with respect to recent scientific python packages. The code for the VarProRidge paper no longer works, due to an error with "_value" not being set in their array package. I also had numerous problems getting the package to import correctly because the code makes numerous tacit assumptions about which directory the code is being called from.

Given how broken the numpad code is, I think the best solution is reimplement this PDE somehow. FENIX/FireDrake/DOLFIN are reasonable choices, but will need to be docker-ized due to their dependencies. Better still would be to implement this problem directly using FEM following standard texts as to avoid this dependency, then we'd need to verify our FEM solution is implemented correctly.
